About ParentProof
ParentProof is a free, community-curated directory of the channels, apps, brands, snacks, games, books, and podcasts that kids actually encounter. Every listing carries two things: a parent rating and an AEGIS classification — and we show you where they disagree.
Why we exist
Parents are making dozens of content decisions every week with almost no trustworthy signal. Algorithmic recommendations optimise for engagement, not age-fit. Sponsored "best of" lists have obvious conflicts of interest. Parenting forums are helpful but unstructured. ParentProof fills the gap: structured, automated classification + honest community ratings, in one place.
How it works
Every entity in the directory is scored on six axes by AEGIS — the classification engine licensed from FrameBright.ai. Community parents add their own star ratings and flags. When the two sources disagree, that disagreement is surfaced — not hidden — because it is usually the most useful signal.
- Age fitHow well the content suits its stated age group
- Commercial pressureDegree of advertising or sales pressure aimed at children
- Sensory loadOverstimulation risk: fast edits, loud audio, flashing
- Metadata honestyHow accurately title/description matches actual content
- Channel driftConsistency with the channel's stated niche over time
- Curriculum alignmentAlignment with educational standards, if an educational claim is made
The non-profit structure
The directory is operated by ParentProof.org, a non-profit organisation. A founding bylaw forbids funder influence over ratings. The commercial API that developers and brands use to access AEGIS classifications is a separate entity — its revenue funds the non-profit, but it cannot influence which content gets rated or how.
What we do not do
- We do not sell or share parent or child data.
- We do not accept payment to improve a listing's rating.
- We do not have a premium tier that removes any feature from the free tier.
- We do not build kid-facing surfaces. Parents only.
Technology
The ParentProof web application is built on Next.js and hosted on Google Cloud Run. The AEGIS classification engine runs on Vertex AI (Gemini 2.5 Flash for standard classifications, Gemini 2.5 Pro for hard cases with low confidence). All data is stored in Postgres and retained per our Privacy Policy.
